Lecture Synopsis

Air Cdre Byford is currently Head of RAF Medical Services. She is delighted to be asked to present the 20th Air Arthur Marshall Lecture for the Royal Aeronautical Society Cambridge Branch on 6 February 2020.

Her lecture will provide a reflection on her career, focussing on her time as Commander Medical in Afghanistan in 2014 where she was responsible for the closure of the legendary Role 3 Trauma Field Hospital in Camp Bastion, and the safe recovery of the UK Medical Group. She will also talk about the current roles, capabilities and challenges facing the RAF Medical Services, and give a personal account of her experience as a senior female officer in the military and as a gender advocate for the Royal Air Force.
